Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 33 Review

INFINITY 6 – Three Guardians

Recap: Sailor Pluto is back, as we saw in the previous episode, and Chibi Moon immediately asks her if she’s real. She answers that she was brought back by Neo Queen Serenity’s power, and Sailor Moon transforms into Serenity in front of the entire group. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune introduce themselves to her as the Outer Solar System Guardians, and Pluto follows suit.

INFINITY 5 Setsuna Meioh – SAILOR PLUTO

Recap:

Setsuna was introduced at the very end of the previous episode, as a student at the Academy. (How is she alive? It is a mystery that may be explained in a future episode.) At the beginning of episode 32, she’s in her lab researching the distorted space around Sankakusu. Sankakusu is looking pretty bad, what with giant dark clouds looming above it and all…

INFINITY 4 Haruka Tenoh, Michiru Kaioh – SAILOR URANUS, SAILOR NEPTUNE

Hey, we’re finally at the episode where we get to see Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus’ transformations!

Recap: As soon as the episode begins, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus face off with the other Sailor Guardians, insisting that they’re not allies. After Chibimoon remarks that Neptune’s mirror is one of the talismans (since Michiru called it her talisman last episode) the group assumes she’s been causing their bad dreams. Instead of stating if she did cause them one way or another, Sailor Uranus performs a World Shaking at the group to get them to go away. It works. We don’t see exactly what happens, as the scene changes, but the main group is physically unharmed when we see them again. They’re mostly angry that Uranus attacked them, but Moon really wants to know if they’re actually their enemy or not.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 27 Review

 INFINITY 1 – Premonition – First Part

Much like JoJo, Sailor Moon Crystal has started up again! Unlike JoJo, though, Sailor Moon Crystal‘s schedule wasn’t the clearest. Up until the day it aired, I had no idea what time it was going to start. Was it going to be in the morning, the afternoon, or what? How often were episodes going to be released? Twice a month again? I read from some sources that the episodes were to be weekly, unlike the first two seasons, but I wasn’t sure if that was true or not. (This is why I said they were probably using the ‘first and third Saturday’ a month schedule again when I reviewed the trailer. Turns out I was wrong! Oops!)

Apparently Sailor Moon Crystal will be airing every Monday for 13 weeks. Good to know!

Anyway, I was hesitant about this episode because of how inconsistent Crystal was before. I mean, just how much could Toei improve?

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 20 Review

Act 20: CRYSTAL TOKYO – King Endymion

So, I did that thing again where I poke around Twitter and Tumblr to read other reactions to the new Crystal episode before watching it for myself. I don’t do this for Stardust Crusaders, mainly since I don’t know what’s going to happen next there, but I do it for Crystal to gauge how prepared I need to be before sitting down to review. Why am I saying this now? Well, because I’ve read that episode 20 fell back on animation quality again. Episode 19 wasn’t atrocious; in fact, by Crystal standards, it was alright. Unfortunately, Toei, for whatever reason, went downhill for this one.

I guess it’s time to strap yourselves in for a messed up ride.

Review: Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 7

Review: Sailor Moon Crystal

Episode 7

Act 7: Mamoru Chiba, Tuxedo Mask

scene04356

I was very excited to watch this episode after the success of episode 6, so much so that I actually watched and reviewed it the day it came out! This is a habit I should totally get into more.

I didn’t mention this during my previous review, since I admittedly have not been re-reading the manga (I originally intended to and time just stopped agreeing with me, so unfortunately I have not had the chance to re-read each chapter as the episodes come out) but I do find it odd how Crystal is deviating from the manga so much. It’s still closer than the classic anime, but I was under the impression that it was to be a near-exact replica, and it’s not. I never recalled Queen Beryl simply showing up at the point in the manga where episode 6 took place: not that this change was a bad thing per se, though it was still a little odd.

Anyway, episode 7 had more animation bloopers than 6, which was disappointing since I was all ready to stop riffing on the quality of the animation since then, but I couldn’t help noticing a few choice stills during this episode. These will probably be cleaned up for the Blu-rays, but they shouldn’t necessarily be this bad now. It’s definitely weird how one episode can be almost perfect and the next not so much. (For one thing, I will never ‘like’ the way Luna is drawn and animated – it always looks so awkward to me.)
