Skoshbox Review February 2017
Last month’s box was probably the best one I’ve received so far! I was super excited to open this one to see if it could live up to the legacy of the best box. 🙂
I was very surprised to see that my picture from Instagram was included on the back of the booklet! (It’s the one with the Sailor Moon blanket, haha.) I’ve never been featured in anything before, so that was awesome!!
1.) Big Thunder III
BIG THUNDER III … sounds like the name of a monster truck, and for some reason BIG THUNDER and BIG THUNDER II were already taken or something. Not sure.
This is a chocolate cookie bar covered in more chocolate with chocolate chips. I think the III in the name might refer to the three chocolate forms in this thing, possibly.
I didn’t take a picture of the inside because it was kinda melty when I had it, but imagine a chocolate cookie surrounded in chocolate, and you have BIG THUNDER III. The chocolate chips were kind of unnoticeable, which was odd considering the package, but it didn’t detract from the flavor at all.
This was very enjoyable.
2.) Chocoball: Caramel
I’m not going to lie — Chocoball is one of those snacks I’ve been waiting to try, so I was very excited to see them in this box! The commercial for them is pretty eclectic, but funny, and I recall seeing it on Youtube years back for some reason. The jingle is the type that gets stuck in your head, prompting you to potentially want to try the candy out for yourself, to see if it’s worth the fuss.
The candy itself is simple. It’s caramel molded into a ball, covered in chocolate.
I like caramel, and I like chocolate, so I liked these a lot.
There isn’t much to say about them, though, as they’re so quick to eat and talk about.
3.) Bontan Ame
These are very interesting citrus flavored chews covered in a rice paper wrapping. The paper is completely edible, so even though it looks like you should peel it off of the chew, you don’t need to.
I tried one of these with the paper, and found that the texture of the bite when the paper was broken really added to the soft chewy texture of the candy.
I thought the whole thing was a neat combination, and the flavor was a pleasant orange.
4.) Puru Mocchi: Grape
If these look familiar to you, well, that’s because they are. Back in December, I reviewed the orange version of these and thought they were decent. The grape variety that came in this month’s box is really no different.
The gummy is softer than I’d like, but the flavor’s not bad at all. There isn’t much to say about them, since I’ve talked about them before.
5.) Wasabi Endo-Mame
I’m not a big fan of spicy stuff, and I’ve always been kind of terrified of wasabi. Needless to say, I wasn’t really looking forward to trying these wasabi peas, but I had to at least give them an honest shot.
The peas are standard size (apologies for the watermark covering one in the picture), and they have a delicate coating of wasabi powder on them. The wasabi flavor is decently strong, but not too hot when you only eat one or two. I only had two of them, since I was worried they’d become too hot if I had more.
I wouldn’t personally buy these since they’re not my thing, but if you like wasabi, they seem pleasant enough.
For Valentine’s Day, Skoshbox sent a pack of Otonano Takenoko which was also included in the last box. I really appreciated that, since it was a delicious snack when I first had it and I totally could have went for more, then!
Verdict for Feb. 17’s box: VERY GOOD! While the Puru Mocchi was kind of a repeat, everything else was unique and fun, even if I particularly don’t love wasabi.
