Skoshbox Review August 2016
I’m back to reviewing regular Skoshboxes again! The Dekabox was a lot of fun, but also a lot of food; I couldn’t handle eating all of those Japanese snacks every month, so I’m honestly glad to be returning to the regular size.
First up for August, there’s Everyburger! Everyburger is a small sandwich cookie with salted caramel filling. They look like little cheeseburgers, appropriate to their name. I thought they were pretty adorable, and the mascot seems super excited about his product. So, needless to say, I was excited to try them!
The cookie part is the bun of the burger. It’s crunchy, but not too much. The filling is a cocoa-caramel spread. I’m not sure if the caramel is the ‘cheese’ or not, but I didn’t taste too much salt from it. The ‘sesame seeds’ on the bun seemed to carry most of the salt flavor, which wasn’t too much. I liked that, though, since I personally don’t really care for super salty sweet stuff.
These were really pleasant! It was easy to eat quite a few of them in one go, admittedly enough.
Next is a piece of gum with some stickers and a card fearing Sanrio characters I’ve never heard of before. Apparently their name (Sumikko Gurashi) refers to ‘Corner Living,’ as I found while Googling them. I had no idea many people in Japan preferred to be in or near a corner when on public transport, so that was interesting to discover.
Also, I love penguins, so I was happy to see one of these little guys was a penguin. 🙂
Anyway, the gum is soda flavored, exactly like the gum I reviewed back in May of this year. Like, it’s literally the same thing.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy pleasant gum with cute characters on the package, but this was the same flavor as May’s and all. A little disappointing, to be honest.
Next is this Ichigo, or Strawberry Milk hard candy. This is also similar to a candy I’ve reviewed in the past — the Yuzu Citrus Throat Drops in June. The difference here, though, is that these drops aren’t Yuzu flavored, they’re Strawberry Milk flavored. That’s a good thing. At first I liked the Yuzu ones, but I found myself not wanting to finish the pack after a bit due to the medicinal flavor they left in my mouth.
These, though, are really good. They’re sweet, kind of creamy, and light. I would buy them if I was in the mood for some hard candy.
Remember the pudding pop from last month? This month there’s another Sanrio themed lollipop in the mix, but it’s peach flavored — Hello Kitty Peach Pop.
There isn’t much to say about it. It tastes like a very sweet peach. What it has to do with Hello Kitty, I don’t know, but it tastes good.
Finally, there’s the PomPom Purin Pudding Gummy. These are little gummies that look like flan. They taste like flan, too, which is really pleasant. I like the flavor a lot. My only complaint is that the texture for these is a little strange. They’re soft, but with an unexpected bite, kind of like marshmallow but not completely so. I know, not a great description, but it’s interesting.
I did really enjoy the package for these. Look at the bottom of the bag! It’s pretty cute!
Best of August 2016: Everyburger! Those were some pleasant cookies!
